I help leaders take good next steps in complexity, when the stakes are real and standing still has costs.
For over 15 years, I’ve worked in the messy space between social innovation and collective action across Europe and MENA – alongside startups, public institutions, foundations, NGOs, and groups holding things together under real constraints.
I’ve helped launch initiatives, secure multi-year funding, and support complex programs with partners across the UN system, EU institutions, global corporations, and philanthropy.
What most shaped my work, however, wasn’t success.
It was what stalled.
Across contexts, I kept seeing the same pattern.
I saw capable teams with clear options grind to a halt.
Not because they lacked ideas, but because decisions carried hidden costs: to relationships, egos, or past commitments. When those costs went unaddressed, progress died.
Over time, I came to understand this as a systems problem – and it changed how I work.
In complex situations, you don’t learn your way forward on paper. You learn by moving and seeing what moves back.
So I stopped chasing perfect plans and started helping people take the smallest, smartest next step – one that moves them forward and teaches them something real.
I partner with leaders, founders, and organizations in sensitive, high-stakes situations where inaction has consequences – and movement matters.
This looks like:
Across all of this, my role is consistent:
I help people close the open decisions slowing them down, then design the smallest next step that teaches them something real.

Clients work with me when the cost of getting this wrong is higher than the cost of slowing down.
This work shows up through focused advisory, speaking, and decision-making formats designed to make movement possible again. I know when to push, when to listen, and when to shut up.
Sharp enough to cut through. Calm enough not to rush.
Born in South Korea, raised between Germany and the US, I moved early between cultures and it shaped how I read situations: what’s visible, what’s assumed, and what people carry quietly. That sensitivity informs how I work, without it needing to become the work itself.
Today, I work with people and institutions who care deeply about impact and long-term viability – and who are honest about how difficult it can be to sustain movement once the obvious answers are gone.
If you’re wrestling with heavy decisions and need to move forward, let’s talk.

I don’t promise easy answers. I help create movement that survives contact with reality.

Daniel Hires is a speaker, facilitator, and advisor who helps leaders move in complexity.
Over the past 18 years, he has helped leaders and institutions navigate situations where stakes are real, certainty is limited, and decisions have consequences.
His work spans social entrepreneurship, global institutions, and multi-stakeholder transformation – from grassroots initiatives to advisory roles with the UN system, EU institutions, foundations, NGOs, and corporates across Europe and MENA.
Daniel is known for combining systems intelligence with human clarity – bringing sharp thinking, energy, and calm judgment into rooms where things have stalled.
He doesn’t speak about change in abstract terms. He helps audiences see why movement slows, where decisions get heavy, and how progress resumes once trade-offs are made explicit.
What distinguishes his work is a deep understanding of how change actually unfolds in complex environments: not through perfect plans, but through movement that creates learning.
Daniel’s keynotes are thought-provoking, experiential, practical and direct – people leave unsettled in a useful way. Audiences leave with clearer priorities, a better grasp of the forces shaping their organizations, and renewed momentum to act without pretending the work is easy.
Based in Europe, he works globally.
